“I have come as a Light into the world, so that whoever believes in Me [whoever cleaves to and trusts in and relies on Me] may not continue to live in darkness… For I have not come to judge and to condemn and to pass sentence and to inflict penalty on the world, but to save the world.”

What does light do?
It enables you to see clearly, for one. If you’re in a dark room, you could stumble around, run into furniture, knock things over and so on, OR you could turn on the light and go about your business.
In that same way, Jesus is the light to the world! 1 Peter 2:9 says, God called us “out of darkness into His marvelous light”. When we were stumbling around in sin, ruining our lives, Jesus decided to shine bright! He enables us to see where we have problems and shows us a better way. We can navigate our way through life, seeing our purpose.
Light also causes growth! Think of a plant. Out in the open air it can grow and flourish, but lock that plant up in a dark room and it won’t live for much longer. No matter how much you water or fertilize it, without the sun, it won’t grow! Jesus provides light for us to grow spiritually! We could read the Bible all we want and attend church events all we want, but if we don’t have a relationship with Jesus and look to Him in our life, we won’t grow.
One last thing light does is provide hope in a dark place. Have you ever heard the phrase “just look for the light at the end of the tunnel”? People are looking for hope in life. If they’re caught in a dark place, they need something to encourage them to keep going. That is who Jesus is! He is our hope of Glory! (Colossians 1:27) As we live in this world filled with sin and corruption and decay, Jesus is what we look to to find inspiration for a life filled with the manifest presence of God! With Him in our sight, we can press through this life with the hope of a life filled with Glory!
Jesus is our light. He leads us and guides us. He provides us with the love we need to grow spiritually, and He gives hope for a brighter today!

“Father, I thank You for Jesus! Thank You for sending Him as a light to the world to save me and all humanity. Father, give me a deeper revelation of Jesus as the light of my life, that I would recognize Him as my light to direct, my light to grow, and my light to bring hope. I ask that you would send laborers into the world to show the light of the gospel to the lost, that they would be able to step into the light as I have. I thank You, Lord, for the direction, growth, and hope I have found in Your light! Show me how I can shine the light of Jesus through me! In Jesus’ name, amen.”
