“Arise [from the deep depression and prostration in which circumstances have kept you—rise to a new life]! Shine (be radiant with the glory of the Lord), for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you.”
-Isaiah 60:1
What is glory? So many times we think of the glory of the Lord as a far off thing that only appears as a cloud at the great historic revivals. While His glory has manifested in fire and clouds, that is not, by any means, the only thing that His glory includes. The glory of the Lord is, simply put, everything that He is. His life, His light, His healing, His prosperity, His very nature, His power, His compassion, and His love are all part of His glory. His glory is what makes Him so bright and brilliant!
The Word elaborates on the glory in II Corinthians 4:6. It says, “For God, Who said, Let light shine out of darkness, has shone in our hearts so as [to beam forth] the Light for the illumination of the knowledge of the majesty and glory of God [as it is manifest in the Person and is revealed] in the face of Jesus Christ (the Messiah).”
The very glory of God—everything that He is—becomes visible in the face of Jesus! If we want the glory to work in our lives, we look at Jesus! In Isaiah 60:1, the Word says that His glory has risen upon us! You could say that everything that He is comes and sits on us! That means that what He is, we are! (I John 4:17) We become who He is when we look at the glory!
So, all that’s left for us to do is to realize the glory that we carry! And we do that by the Word. II Corinthians 3:18 in the amplified says that we hold the Word up to ourselves like a mirror. A mirror of what? A mirror of the glory of the Lord! When we read the Word we can see examples of everything that He is. He is the Healer. He is the Provider. In His presence, there is joy. He brought Life—overflowing Life at that! So, what do we do with that? We become that! We are “transfigured into His very own image in ever increasing splendor” We go from one degree of glory to another! We increase in glory when we mirror the Word of God. John 1 says that Jesus is the Word. If we mirror Jesus, we grow in His glory! His glory becomes who we are!
When the glory becomes who we are we release it into our surroundings. What made Jesus such an influence on this planet wasn’t just what He said. It was how He acted and what He did. Everywhere He went, something changed. He brought Life everywhere He went and released it into everyone around Him. When we carry the glory like Jesus, we do that exact same thing. The glory that we carry changes our surroundings. We bring Joy! We bring Life! We lay hands on the sick and they are healed! We give the glory that we have to others! Everything He is, we are, and we carry it to the world!
